ASER Centre is pleased to announce the start of the first 6-month Certificate Course in Statistics, Questionnaire Design and Communications from 5 February 2018 in New Delhi. This course is certified by Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. A total of 22 participants have registered for the course.
Capacity Building has been a core ASER Centre activity since its establishment in 2008,focusing primarily on evolving an internal course programme to equip ASER state team members with a range of skill sets to support their core responsibilities, ranging from data collection tools, data analysis and survey methodology to communication and classroom training strategies.
In early 2015, ASER Centre collaborated with the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) atTata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai to design a one-year course that combinedacademic rigour with field practice. Course participants comprised ASER state teams aswell as a few participants from external organizations including JPAL and IDinsight.Based on feedback from this first course cycle, the content and duration of the coursewas reduced.
The Certificate Course in Statistics, Questionnaire Design and Communications hasbeen designed for practitioners who are professionally engaged in training, conductingresearch studies and disseminating findings to a larger audience. The target audienceincludes field-level researchers, practising researchers, survey coordinators inorganizations engaged in data collection, analysis, dissemination as well as training,planning and supervising research studies/surveys.
The course has three modules: 1) Statistics and Excel; 2) Questionnaire Design; and 3)Communications and Leadership, and aims to enable participants to apply theories and skills in their current work. Participants identify a research problem, design and pilot a questionnaire tool to collect data, and apply the skills learnt in communication and leadership. Since the course is designed for working professionals, it comprises a combination of contact classes and self-learning. Methodology includes small and large group activities, case studies, discussions and self-reflections.
Participants completing all three modules successfully will be awarded a joint certification by TISS and ASER Centre.
Currently, partner organizations can choose one of the following options to avail any orall modules offered by ASER Centre.
* At the end of the course, participants will receive a joint ASER-TISS Certificate.
